The NSS unit at Vignan's Nirula operates under the National Service Scheme (NSS), a Central Sector Scheme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
The unit comprises approximately 120 volunteers and was sanctioned by JNTUK on 26-06-2019 as a self-funded entity.
The Programme Officer, Dr. H. Bhavani Naga Prasanna, an Associate Professor in the BS&H Department, leads the unit along with 6 committee members and 163 student volunteers.
The primary objective of the NSS unit is to foster active student participation in nation-building activities, focusing on projects that positively impact communities in and around Guntur. Through hands-on community service initiatives, the NSS provides students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels with practical exposure to social responsibility and civic engagement.
The NSS scheme at large targets the youth demographic at the 11th & 12th grades (+2 level), technical institutions, and higher education institutions across India.
It offers students opportunities to engage in various government-led community service programs aimed at promoting social well-being.
The unit at Vignan's Nirula emphasizes the role of such initiatives in personal development, providing participants with a sense of fulfillment and joy.
